Andy Peffers
Andy qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London 16 years ago. He is married to Mandy; another vet who was in the same year as him at university. Andy has two children; Hamish and Archie and also 4 horses, 2 dogs, 1 cat and some fish. Andy’s hobbies are running, riding and watching football. His professional interests include equine dentistry and feline medicine.
James Bigglestone
James qualified from the Royal Veterinary College, London alongside Andy in 1995. Like Andy; James met his wife, Eileen (also a qualified vet), at university. James and Eileen now have four children. James has a specific interest in orthopaedic surgery and also practices acupuncture at the Meadowbank clinic. James is predominantly based at Meadowbank, however he returns to the Buckley branch on a regular basis. In his spare time James plays football, and along with Andy is a very keen supporter of Manchester United.
Simon Ratcliffe
Simon went to secondary school in Chester before graduating from the University of Liverpool as a vet in 2005. After working for nearly four years in mixed practice he spent a year travelling around South America before spending last year working at a small animal clinic in London. Since joining Village Vets in January 2011 he has enrolled in a certificate in advanced veterinary practice, specialising in his favourite area of small animal surgery and orthopaedics. Away from work Simon is a keen cricketer playing for a team in Chester, and also thoroughly enjoys surfing, snowboarding and photography.
Nikki Berry
Nikki qualified in 2008 from Liverpool University and joined the practice that year. She is predominantly a small animal clinician and has a special interest in dermatology and animal behaviour. Nikki lives with her husband Kevin and their daughter Daisy. Nikki has two dogs; Max and Herman – who you may see scampering around the Mancot branch, and a cat – Roger. Nikki divides her time between the Buckley and Mancot branches, but particularly loves her time at Mancot – being a proper ‘village vet’.
Sophie Blackmur
Sophie is originally from Sussex, she studied for her veterinary degree at Liverpool University, graduating in 2009. She joined the practice later that year. Like Nikki, Sophie is based at both the Mancot and Buckley branches and is mainly a small animal vet. Sophie particularly enjoys soft tissue surgery. Sophie lives with her partner Nick; a large animal vet in the area. In her spare time Sophie likes playing Netball and baking.
Alastair Wright
Al qualified from Glasgow in 1999 and spent 8 years working in mixed practice before moving to small animal work. Al is solely based at the Buckley branch and enjoys all aspects of routine medicine and surgery. In his spare time Al enjoys mountain biking across North Wales and beyond. Al lives with Eliza, their dog Holly and their three cats.
Eliza Grout
Eliza is from Conwy, North Wales. She has an equine science degree and, business management masters, and is also a qualified riding instructor. Eliza studied veterinary medicine at Edinburgh university and qualified 4 years ago. Eliza owns 4 horses, 3 cats and 1 spaniel. When she’s not working Eliza enjoys competing her horses, mountain biking and being in the hills.
Eliza is based at the Buckley and Meadowbank branches and is involved in small animal and equine work at the practice. Eliza has a special interest in small animal ultrasonography and enjoys all aspects of equine practice.
Alice Makemsome
Originally from the Isle of Wight, Alice strayed 'up north' to study veterinary medicine at Liverpool University, graduating in 2011. Alice enjoys both small animal and equine work, but she has a particular interest in equine colic, having undertaken a specialised elective period with the surgeons at the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital, Leahurst. Alice is predominantly based at the Buckley practice and is often out and about on horse calls. Alice is currently trying to learn Welsh and any help with this would be appreciated!ultrasonography and enjoys all aspects of equine practice.
Hannah Smith
Hannah is originally from Yorkshire and moved down to Wales to join our team at Village Vets in January this year. She qualified from Liverpool University in 2011, where she particularly enjoyed her month elective in equine medicine in the equine hospital. Hannah has an interest in all aspects of equine practice enjoys driving around the beautiful Welsh countryside visiting our horse clients. She can also be found consulting at our Buckley branch and enjoys treating challenging medical conditions, such as diabetes and kidney disease. In her spare time Hannah likes running, cooking and baking and loves to horse ride and ski when she gets chance.
Kerisa Hughes
Kerisa is practice manager and is based at the Buckley branch 4 days a week. Kerisa is a local girl and is a qualified nurse; she has worked at the practice for over 8 years. Kerisa has two boys Ossian and Finn.
Steph Leonard, Alison Newby & Anne Scott
Steph and Alison are receptionists at the Mancot branch. Steph owns a menagerie of animals including 3 horses, 3 dogs and 2 cats. Alison has a little dog called Belle. Anne is a receptionist/administrative assistant and is based predominantly at the Mancot branch.
Abbey Davies, Trina Roberts & Laura Foulkes
Abbey, Trina and Laura share receptionist duties at the Buckley branch. Abbey is our head receptionist, whilst Laura is predominantly our weekend receptionist. Abbey and Trina live locally and may be seen out and about walking their dogs Nell & Poppy and Oscar respectively. Laura has a catcalled Ruby.
Amy Robinson
Amy is the receptionist for Meadowbank, based there 5 days a week. Amy has three cats, Walt, Disney and Grover
Kerry Knapp & Katie Bennett
Kerry and Katie are our head nurses at Village Vets. They are both based predominantly at our Buckley practice and take an active role in all our clinics.
Jo Williams
Jo is the head nurse at Meadowbank. She runs all their nurse clinics and regularly holds ‘puppy parties ‘for both branches. Jo has a particular interest in animal behaviour.
Kat Brewer, Josie Oldfield & Sian Lidford
Kat is a qualified nurse and is based at the Buckley branch; where she is involved in the running of nurse clinics. Josie is just about to complete her final year of nurse training, joining our qualified nurse team. Josie particularly enjoys equine nursing. Sian has just started her second year or nurse training.
Sera Pritchard, Fiona Davies & Evie Jones
Sera and Fiona are trainee veterinary nurses who are just starting their first year. Evie is a trainee veterinary nurse, she is currently studying at Myerscough College doing her veterinary nurse foundation degree. She is with us while she completes her work placement year.
Emily Rolton
Emily is our dedicated equine nursing assistant. She will often be found at Andy’s side on horse calls and is responsible for keeping the equine part of the practice running smoothly.
Adam Robinson
Adam is a nursing assistant based at our Buckley branch.
